Foss is a prototype I made for an exhibition called Unika, that was part of Designers Saturday Oslo 2023. The objective of the exhibition was to front 30 of Norways most prominent designers with an object that represents their design philosophy. Each object was uniquely made for this exhibition and one of a kind. All pieces were at the end of the weekend actioned off through Blomqvist. Photos by Anne Bråtveit.
The original idea behind the object aimed to transform something primarily known for its functionality into a standout piece with a unique identity. The objective was to add character and depth to a frequently overlooked item, going beyond its utilitarian role.
Introducing Foss, a thoughtfully designed object that not only serves as a practical step ladder, but also brings an aesthetic appeal to the space it occupies. The design draws inspiration from the powerful and calm elegance of Norwegian waterfalls, resulting in an appearance that exudes both serenity and distinction.
Crafted from white oak plywood, the final stacked-like-appearance of the object mirrors the chosen manufacturing method, illuminating the qualities of the material.
